Blood and Pus: Hemorrhagic and Infectious Complications

چکیده
Spinal Hematoma The actual incidence of neurologic dysfunction resulting from hemorrhagic complications associated with neuraxial blockade is unknown; however, the incidence cited in the literature is estimated to be less than 1 in 150,000 epidural and less than 1 in 220,000 spinal anesthetics (Tryba 1993). In a review of the literature between 1906 and 1994, Vandermeulen et al. (Vandermeulen 1994) reported 61 cases of spinal hematoma associated with epidural or spinal anesthesia. In 87% of patients, a hemostatic abnormality or traumatic/difficult needle placement was present. More than one risk factor was present in 20 of 61 cases. Importantly, although only 38% of patients had partial or good neurologic recovery, spinal cord ischemia tended to be reversible in patients who underwent laminectomy within eight hours of onset of neurologic dysfunction.

Entrance of bit of air, blood or pus because injury in the pleural cavity can prevent the lungs from fully ...
متن کاملA Case of Methotrexate Intoxication Misdiagnosed as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever
[No Abstract] Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is considered as the most important arboviral infection in Iran. Early diagnosis of CCHF is essential for preventing the spread of the infection and providing appropriate treatment to patients. Given that clinical symptoms of CCHF may overlap with other common infectious disease; differential diagnosis is a matter of great importance. In this...

With acupuncture treatment becoming an increasingly popular analgesic, there have been increasing reports on its associated complications. Although pneumothorax is the most frequently reported injury caused by acupuncture needles, infectious complications may not be uncommon. Most infectious complications show less serious clinical manifestations than pneumothorax, but retroperitoneal or intraa...
متن کاملIncreased Thrombopoiesis and Platelet Activation in Hantavirus-Infected Patients.
BACKGROUND Thrombocytopenia is a common finding during viral hemorrhagic fever, which includes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). The 2 main causes for thrombocytopenia are impaired thrombopoiesis and/or increased peripheral destruction of platelets. In addition, there is an increased intravascular coagulation risk during HFRS, which could be due to platelet activation. METHODS Thr...
متن کاملBlood Products Consumption Among Patients with Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in Sistan and Baluchestan Province
Abstract Background and Objectives The Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a hemorrhagic viral infection with a high mortality rate. Due to the lack of specific treatment, the disease is managed by medical supports and antiviral drugs. In the present study, we assessed the consumption of blood products during the last outbreak of CCHF in 2017 in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Materi...
